Refund rule
One rule, the same on every page, in the terms and on every invoice.
New article (Standard, Complex, Senior review)
New-article fees are billed in stages, set out in your written quote.
- Stage 1 (the start payment) is refundable in full, for any reason, until you write “approved” on the draft, or until 30 days after the first draft is sent, whichever comes first.
- Stage 2 (the payment on written approval) is due when you approve the written draft and is not refundable.
- Stage 3 (the balance). The larger part of the fee is billed only after the page is live.
- If you paid in full and the page never goes live, the balance is refunded once we confirm in writing that nothing more can be improved.
Existing article, media kit, website rebuild, pitch batch
Pro rata. You get back the value of the work not yet delivered. Every invoice lists what each part of the engagement is worth, so the calculation is visible before you pay:
- Corrections: the rewrite, the requests filed, and each month of monitoring are priced separately on the invoice.
- Media kit: biography, photographs, fact sheet and boilerplate are priced separately.
- Website: design, build and launch are priced separately.
- Pitch batch: each pitch sent is priced separately.
What never triggers a refund
A volunteer editor’s decision. Reviewers decline drafts, tag articles and nominate them for deletion for their own reasons, and that is the system working as designed. What you pay for at each stage is the work delivered at that stage. The larger part of the fee is billed only after the page is live.
